LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO HAVE A DRINK AND WATCH THE SUNSET?
You cannot do better than Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, and from Bondi to Maroubra there is somewhere for everyone.
Sydney’s Eastern Suburb beaches are amongst the best in the country. They’re not just about swimming and surfing. Here are my top ten beachside bars to have a drink and watch the sunset.
THE BUCKET LIST BAR AND EATERY, BONDI
You cannot get closer to the water than this for a drink. The bar is on the Promenade, with seats along the water edge. The Bucket List has everything, including meals for kids and DJs.
The Bucket List Bar and Eatery, Bondi Pavilion, Shop 1, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi
ICEBERGS DINING ROOM AND BAR, BONDI
An institution, Icebergs is not to be missed. Have a drink in the bar overlooking the unbeatable views of Bondi Beach. You can eat in the Bistro or go upstairs to the award-winning Icebergs restaurant.
Bondi Icebergs Club, 1 Notts Avenue, Bondi
HOTEL RAVESIS, BONDI
Situated at the heart of Bondi Beach, Ravesis offers a classic beachside bar, with live music and DJs. If you want a meal, they also have a superb restaurant.
Hotel Ravesis, 118 Campbell Parade, Bondi
CAFE LA PLAGE, BRONTE
Only two minutes walk to the beach and with beautiful views over Bronte Beach, come here to chill out.
Cafe La Plage, 465 Bronte Road, Bronte
THE CLOVELLY HOTEL, CLOVELLY
The Cloey has been around for decades and it’s an icon. The Beer Garden overlooks stunning Clovelly Bay. Try their Cloey Colada or choose from their Australian and French wines. Have a meal in their bistro for classic Australian fare.
The Clovelly Hotel, 381 Clovelly Road, Clovelly
CLOVELLY BOWLING AND RECREATION CLUB
Since 1947 this club has been perched on the edge of the cliffs at Clovelly. They say they have the best view in Sydney and they might be right. Stop in for a cold beer while you enjoy that view. You might even want to play a game or two while you’re here.
Clovelly Bowling and Recreation Club, 1 Ocean Street, Clovelly
COOGEE PAVILION, COOGEE
This spot is a new favourite for so many people. It is inside the old Palace Hotel at the northern end of the beach. The Rooftop features four indoor and outdoor bars, with a sweeping balcony overlooking Coogee Beach. Downstairs there are areas for kids and families, so no one misses out here.
Coogee Pavilion, 169 Dolphin Street, Coogee
For a relaxing drink, Barzura is perfect. At the southern end of the beach, it has a crystal clear view of the water and has been enjoyed by locals and travellers since 1994. Barzura is open all day until late, 7 days a week, and will never let you down.
Barzura Cafe Restaurant Bar, 62 Carr Street, Coogee
LITTLE JACK HORNER, COOGEE
This small bar offers stunning beach views. It is a newcomer that has fast become a favourite with the locals. The big windows facing the beach and the live music make it an ideal spot for meeting friends.
Little Jack Horner , 270-274 Coogee Bay Road, Coogee
BAY HOTEL AND DINER, MAROUBRA
The Bay Hotel has been part of the Maroubra community since 1926. With live music every Sunday, this bar on the shores of the “untamed” beach of Maroubra is an excellent place to enjoy a laid-back drink while watching the sunset.
The Bay Hotel and Diner, 182 Marine Parade, Maroubra Beach
I hope you find a place here to try. It may even become a favourite spot for you too.
See you in the bar!
